After decades of service, this majestic jet will take its final bow at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, offering collectors and aviation enthusiasts a rare chance to own a piece of Indian aviation history.

The 31.4-year-old aircraft, famously dubbed the ‘Queen of the Skies’, was the last Boeing 747 in air india fleet. Known for its iconic hump and double-deck design, the aircraft has served on countless international routes, flying dignitaries, celebrities, and everyday passengers across continents.
According to a post shared by a Twitter user on X, air india news the final Boeing 747 will be auctioned on May 6, 2025, at the air india flight Limited facility in Mumbai (BOM). The auction is expected to draw interest from aviation museums, collectors, and aircraft recycling firms looking to preserve or repurpose the jumbo jet.
Auction Details
The auction will follow an “English No Ties Auction” format, with a minimum duration of 60 minutes. To ensure fairness, an auto-extension of 3 minutes will be added if any bids are placed near the closing time. The event will begin at 9:00 PM and the bid validity period will extend for 30 calendar days post-auction.
Interested bidders will have one day to inspect the air india flights before the auction. However, they must submit essential documentation at least three days in advance to gain access.
Required Documentation Includes:
- Copy of Aadhaar card (original required during visit)
- Photographs of personnel visiting for inspection
- Company letter requesting an export entry pass (original required)
- Indian passport (original and copy – not mandatory for all)
