Air India, IndiGo Release April 1 Flight Advisory – Full Update on Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Gulf Routes

After years of focusing on fleet renewal, improving passenger experience, and expanding global connectivity, Air India is now adding another major long-haul route to its network.

The airline is set to launch a new nonstop connection between Mumbai and Toronto, creating a direct link between two cities with strong business, tourism, and diaspora ties. The new route highlights Air India’s growing focus on ultra-long-haul operations and its ambition to compete with some of the world’s largest airlines.

Air India Launches New Mumbai–Toronto Nonstop Service

Air India has announced a new seasonal ultra-long-haul service connecting Mumbai (BOM) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). The new route is scheduled to begin operations on October 25, 2026, and will continue until March 26, 2027, covering the winter travel season.

The service will operate three times per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, offering passengers a direct alternative for travel between India’s financial capital and Canada’s largest airport.

A Nearly 17-Hour Journey Across Continents

The Mumbai–Toronto flight will become one of Air India’s longest nonstop services, with a scheduled flying time of approximately 16 hours and 30 minutes.

The return flight from Toronto to Mumbai is expected to take around 15 hours and 10 minutes, depending on weather conditions, winds, and operational factors.

This ultra-long-haul operation demonstrates Air India’s ability to connect distant markets without intermediate stops, providing passengers with greater convenience and shorter overall travel times.

Boeing 777-300ER Brings Premium Long-Haul Experience

The new route will be operated using an upgraded Boeing 777-300ER, one of the airline’s largest long-range aircraft.

The aircraft will feature a 328-seat configuration, including:

  • 8 First Class suites
  • 40 Business Class flat-bed seats
  • 280 Economy Class seats

The upgraded cabin is designed to support Air India’s strategy of improving premium travel options while competing with international carriers operating on India–North America routes.

Strong Demand Behind Mumbai–Toronto Connection

The decision to launch the route comes as Air India identifies strong passenger demand between India and Canada.

Mumbai–Toronto is one of the busiest India–North America travel markets, supported by business connections, tourism, education, and a large Indian-origin population in Canada.

The market recorded around 128,000 round-trip passengers in the 12 months up to May 2026, making it a strategically important route for Air India’s international expansion.

Air India Strengthens Delhi–Toronto Operations

Along with the new Mumbai service, Air India is also improving its existing Delhi–Toronto route. From August 2026, the airline plans to remove the previous technical fuel stop, introduce newer Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, restore daily operations, and reduce travel time significantly.

The upgraded Delhi–Toronto service will cut the journey from around 20 hours with the previous stop to approximately 17 hours nonstop, offering passengers a faster connection between India and Canada.

Part of Air India’s Global Transformation Strategy

The new Toronto route is another major milestone in Air India’s wider transformation under the Tata Group.

The airline has been investing heavily in fleet modernization, international expansion, and improving its passenger experience to compete with leading global airlines.

With new long-haul routes, upgraded aircraft, and a stronger international presence, Air India is positioning itself as a serious global aviation player.

Conclusion: Air India’s Long-Haul Ambitions Continue to Grow

The Mumbai–Toronto nonstop service represents more than just a new flight route. It reflects Air India’s changing identity and its ambition to reconnect India with major global markets.

As competition in international aviation continues to grow, Air India’s focus on long-range connectivity could play a key role in shaping its future as a global airline.
