Pratt & Whitney announces full operations of STA, Elevating MRO Performance

Today, Pratt & Whitney, an RTX company, announced that the opening of its Singapore Technology Accelerator (STA) has resulted in notable advancements in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) performance.

Pratt & Whitney announced in September 2022 that it intended to work with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) to establish the technology accelerator. Since then, STA has produced more than 30 innovations that will increase MRO process productivity. Additionally, STA is collaborating with over 20 Singaporean businesses to create novel, pertinent technologies for the international commercial aviation market.

STA technology projects, implemented at four Pratt & Whitney MRO facilities in Singapore, are designed to enhance MRO shop performance. They center on automation, advanced inspection, connected factories, and digital twins.

By continuously digitising and automating shop floors by Industry 4.0 principles, Pratt & Whitney is providing vital insights into performance, quality, capacity, productivity, and cost to both its own MRO operations and customers.

Pratt & Whitney’s global MRO footprint will gradually implement technology insertion projects, such as the innovations developed by STA and verified at local facilities in Singapore, to provide customers with enhanced throughput and turnaround time.

In order to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly changing MRO and aviation industries, Pratt & Whitney is also creating and implementing advanced repair capabilities through additional centers of excellence across the globe, including cutting-edge areas like artificial intelligence and machine learning.
