Asia’s Largest Airport Opens in 2025, Set to Become World’s 4th Largest by Size and Capacity
Noida International Airport, opening in November 2025, will be Asia’s largest, featuring cutting-edge transport links and handling up to 70 million passengers by 2040.
In a landmark development for India’s infrastructure and global connectivity, Asia’s largest international airport is set to open its gates by November 2025. Located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, just outside Delhi, the Noida International Airport is poised to transform not only air travel in India but also the region’s economic landscape.
The project has experienced multiple delays since its foundation stone was laid in November 2021, but the latest update from Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ confirms that the much-anticipated airport will begin operations later this year.
A Mega Infrastructure in the Making
The airport is being developed in four phases, with a total investment of ₹29,650 crore. The first phase alone costs ₹10,056 crore and is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually. This initial phase includes one runway and a modern terminal building equipped with world-class amenities.
By the time the fourth phase is completed in 2040, the airport will boast the capacity to handle 70 million passengers annually, making it the fourth-largest airport in the world in terms of both area and capacity.
Job Creation and Economic Boost
During a recent site inspection, Minister Gupta revealed that discussions were held for additional infrastructure projects worth ₹45,148 crore, expected to generate approximately 132,000 jobs. He instructed authorities and landholding companies to ensure timely commencement and completion of construction, as per the approved Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Cutting-Edge Technology and Connectivity
Critical aviation infrastructure is also nearing completion. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) building and the installation of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance / Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems by the Airports Authority of India are progressing rapidly.
The airport is designed to be more than just an aviation hub. It will feature a state-of-the-art Ground Transportation Center, integrating metro rail, bus terminals, dedicated taxi lanes, and private parking facilities to ensure seamless ground connectivity.
High-Speed Rail Link to Delhi
One of the most ambitious features is a planned high-speed rail link connecting Delhi to Varanasi, with a stop at the airport. Once operational, this link will reduce travel time from Delhi to the airport to just 21 minutes, offering unparalleled convenience for passengers.
With its cutting-edge facilities, strategic location, and vision for the future, the Noida International Airport is set to become a beacon of modern aviation and a symbol of India’s infrastructure ambitions. As the countdown to November 2025 begins, this megaproject is ready to put India on the global aviation map like never before.
