Rotten face of Ground crew in Indian Aviation.
MAY DAY OF AN AIRLINE GROUND CREW! ! !
Dawn to Dusk people fly as birds fly and the airline ground crew makes the passengers fly but there are few background errors and some malpractices which is being followed by either the aviator or the recruiter. There is a deliberate lack in the selection and training channel or there is something which is still in darkness that has to be revealed and hopefully this article will voice out and be evident on.
Indian Aviation is facing various issues and crisis relating to passengers safety and security which also has triggered the airline staffs for some reason where staffs are involved in man handling elderly passengers, improper handling of wheelchairs, taking charge of the situation and so on but where the situation should be lead by an appropriate authority as a Standard Operating Procedure has failed. The definite cause of such activities are lack of improper training where unqualified and ineligible candidates get a job on the stream and the atmosphere has created a global change over the time frame. This initially starts from the procedure of the recruitment panel and their eligibility criteria and here arises a very tricky question of when recruiters could hire a 10+2, B.Sc., B.Com, B.A or any other degree graduate but are not ready on giving a chance to a B.E or a B.Tech Graduate and the justification disclosed is that the stream belongs to Engineering(Technical) background and so as per the recruiters an aeronautical/aerospace graduate or an Engineer who has the basic knowledge about aircrafts model although irrespective to operations are overqualified but other degree from any other major subjects such as Computer and Science who do not owe any idea about aviation is fine with the recruiters is quite anonymously optimistic.
There are a few highlights we would anticipate to put to you across utilizing the source of this channel through which the dark side could be bought to limelight.
SELECTION GATEWAY CRITERIA
The first and foremost concern is about the referral policy some companies follow, irrespective of the qualification and eligibility. People strive hard to get a job, because of this referral policy where candidates having high reference get through the interview and believing as it is a discrimination in qualification standards and this clearly states that the talent and scope of a well-qualified and eligible ( Good Communicating with pleasing personality on grooming grounds with fair idea about aviation knowledge ) candidates career and future is affected and the remedy for this issue could solve if the entrance exams policy could come into role and is made mandatory where Aviation experts could train the candidates and make them eligible on professional platform so that brutal handling of passengers will not evolve from the worse in the modern aviation. Mandatory exams and Mandatory campus interview have good prism value as follows where companies will be recruiting candidates who have met the aviation standards and also such rude behavior, violation of standard operating procedures or insubordination from duties may disappear. As Bank, Central Government, and State Government conduct entrance exams and selection process such as IBPS, Staff selection committee, UPSC, KPSC, TNPSC respectively it would be appreciated and it will be a remedy as well as a solution if bodies like AAI or any other private body could be given power on taking this critical scenario where the industry always focuses on the safety and security of the general public and anyhow it has also proved the sensitivity of the Industry through many incidents such as terrorist activities, multiple bombings, and many other violation on safety breaches.
OTHER TURBULENCE A GROUND CREW FACES
Also adding on to this, there are many other queries which raises a concern when it comes to an aviators life right starting from their career. Through various researches we have discovered many wrecks such as no proper recognition and rewards, no standard salary as other industries, no autopilot increment and promotion, a pressure work culture without stress busters
REASON FOR RESIGNATION
Excessive stress, No social life, Medical grounds, No appropriate time to spend with family, Excessive pressure, Politics on duties leading to forceful resignation also might be the reason ground crew resigns from their position or at times abscond from duties. Even, the one who survives out of these traps who may have sacrificed all the above may not be rewarded. These also might be the reason for field change from aviation industry.
SERIOUS CONCERN
Some important queries have been raised such as few companies ask for deposit payment where poor skillful candidates miss the opportunities, and few holds confirmation of their results. The simplest remedy on this would be, if an immediate result could be given as if they are selected or rejected and few companies deny in taking fresh candidates, but how would a fresher get an opportunity to gain his experience if the proper platform is unavailable. And at the end all the queries and concerns still remains undiscovered.

Lost Tool Found in Qantas A380 After 34 Flights
An Australian Transportation Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigation recently revealed that a Qantas A380 operated 34 flights with a 1.25-meter nylon tool lodged in one of its engines.
This turning tool, used during borescope inspections to rotate the intermediate-pressure compressor, was left behind during scheduled maintenance at Los Angeles on December 6, 2023. It remained inside the engine until it was discovered by maintenance staff during a subsequent check at Los Angeles on January 1, 2024.

The ATSB report highlights two critical lapses. First, maintenance engineers failed to notice the tool during final checks for foreign objects after the borescope inspection. Second, the lost tool procedure was not activated when the tool was identified as missing.
The certifying engineer ultimately cleared the aircraft for service without accounting for the misplaced tool. During the time qantas films the tool was inside, the A380 completed 34 flight cycles, accumulating nearly 294 hours without any noticeable effect on engine performance.
Although the tool was deformed by high-energy airflow within the engine, there was no reported damage to the engine itself. ATSB Chief Commissioner Angus Mitchell commented.
India’s C-295 to Gain Advanced Weapons for Maritime Surveillance
“This incident underscores the importance of following established maintenance protocols. Engineers missed the tool during foreign object checks, and the required lost tool procedure wasn’t started after realizing the tool was missing.”
Following the investigation, the airline issued a safety directive, urging all engineering and tool storage teams to adhere strictly to these protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.
A qantas spokesperson stated, “While the tool didn’t impact engine performance, we take this incident very seriously. It is critical to follow the correct lost tool procedures.”
