A man in Lucknow allegedly lost Rs. 1.49 lakhs in an internet scam when he called the customer service line to inquire about a cancelled flight.

This is the tenth incident in which the victim was tricked after dialling a customer service number from the search engine in the last three months.

On January 9, victim Amit Gupta had to take a trip from Mumbai to Lucknow, however, the flight was ultimately cancelled. To find out more, Gupta called the customer service line. He afterwards received a call from an unknown mobile number. Gupta was instructed to download the Anydesk app by the caller.

Then he was questioned about a few details. The money was taken from his account a short while later. A police inquiry is underway after Gupta filed a complaint.
