Good News for Pilots: Air India Starts Hiring for A320 & B737 – Here’s How to Apply
Air India is recruiting pilots for A320 and B737 aircraft. Check eligibility, requirements, and how to apply for this exciting opportunity.
India’s aviation industry is witnessing a striking contrast in airline strategies. As IndiGo struggles with large-scale cancellations due to crew shortages under the newly implemented FDTL duty-time rules, Air India has stepped forward with a major hiring campaign.
The Tata-owned carrier is positioning itself as a stable and attractive destination for experienced pilots, especially at a time when the aviation market is facing turbulence.
Air India Launches Extensive Recruitment Drive
To support rising demand and its long-term expansion plan, air india has opened recruitment for captains across its Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 fleets. This move strengthens the airline’s cockpit crew pipeline as it inducts new aircraft under its large fleet modernization program.
Eligibility Criteria for B737 Captains
Air India is welcoming applications from both type-rated and non–type-rated pilots for its Boeing 737 operations. For type-rated B737 captains, candidates must hold a valid B737 PIC endorsement and have completed a minimum of 100 PIC hours on the B737 family. The maximum permissible age for applicants in this category is 62 years.
For non–type-rated pilots, the airline offers broader pathways to qualify. Applicants may be eligible if they have at least 500 hours on commercial jets or a total of 3,000 flying hours that include 1,000 hours on turboprop aircraft.
Another route allows candidates with 3,000 total hours, including 1,000 hours on turboprops and 500 hours as PIC in a scheduled airline. Additionally, pilots may qualify if they possess 3,000 total hours, along with 1,000 hours on turboprops and 1,500 PIC hours with a non-scheduled operator on aircraft weighing more than 15 tonnes.
Eligibility Criteria for A320 Captains
air india plane is also recruiting captains for its Airbus A320 fleet. Applicants must hold a valid A320 PIC endorsement and have completed at least 100 PIC hours on the A320 family. The maximum age limit for candidates remains 62 years, similar to the B737 requirements.
IndiGo’s Crew Crisis Creates Opportunity for Air India
Air India’s recruitment drive comes at a time when IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is facing severe operational disruptions. The second phase of India’s revised FDTL norms, which aim to reduce pilot fatigue, has significantly constrained IndiGo’s scheduling flexibility.
As a result, crew availability has plummeted, leading to a wave of flight delays, last-minute cancellations, and rising passenger frustration across major airports.
Air India Steps In to Capture Talent
With IndiGo grappling with a shortage of trained cockpit crew, Air India is capitalizing on the moment. Its well-planned hiring campaign offers stability, growth opportunities, and long-term career prospects for experienced captains.
