British Airways A380 Delayed After Wrong Turn on Taxiway at Boston

In a rather unusual incident, British Airways (BA) faced a hiccup with its Airbus a380 at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) after the pilots accidentally took a wrong turn while taxiing.

On October 18, 2024, one of british airways multiple daily flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and Boston found itself in an unexpected predicament. The superjumbo became stuck on a closed taxiway due to construction work, prompting a nearly hour-long delay.

Upon realizing they had reached a dead end, the crew quickly recognized that there was no alternate taxiway to divert to, leaving them with no option to reverse.

Airport authorities sprang into action, taking around 45 minutes to devise a solution. They dispatched a pushback tug to tow the aircraft back to taxiway M. Once the A380 was free, it was able to proceed to the gate under its own power without further issues.

However, the incident may raise concerns as it involved crossing an active runway without clearance, which could trigger an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Despite the delay, passengers were likely relieved that the flight made it to the gate, especially given British Airways’ recent challenges with its A380 fleet.
