On November 16, TSA agents spotted a cat’s outline in an X-ray image taken while screening a traveler’s bag. After the luggage had gone through the X-ray machine at JFK Airport, “a @TSA officer was astonished to find an orange cat inside a checked bag,” Farbstein wrote in a tweet on November 22.

The stowaway cat, according to Farbstein’s post, belonged to another member of the passenger’s household and was “safely back home.” The cat’s rust-colored fur could be seen poking out from the suitcase’s zipper in a photo that Farbstein tweeted.

TSA agents then contacted Delta, the airline on which the person was scheduled to fly, according to Farbstein in the Washington Post report. The passenger was bound for Orlando, Florida.

Through November 23, the TSA shared several photographs of the incident on Twitter. One X-ray imaging clearly showed a glowing red outline of the cat, as well as numerous of the passenger’s items, including wine glasses and bottles, as well as flip flops. Another image showed the agent opening the suitcase, which had the cat curled up inside.

The official TSA website states that animals shouldn’t be sent through the screening process’ X-ray tunnel.
