Ethiopian Airlines Refutes the Wrong Reportings of the New York Times

Ethiopian Airlines would like to refute the following wrong reporting of the New York Times titled “Ethiopian Airlines Had a Max 8 Simulator, but Pilot on Doomed Flight Didn’t Receive Training”
Ethiopian Airlines, one of the safest and most dependable airlines in the world, is pleased to confirm that Ethiopian pilots have completed the Boeing recommended and FAA approved differences training from the B-737 NG aircraft to the B-737 MAX aircraft before the phase in of the B-737-800 MAX fleet to the Ethiopian operation and before they start flying the B-737-800 MAX.
The pilots had also been made aware of, and well briefed on the Emergency Airworthiness Directive issued by the FAA following the Lion Air accident. The content of the airworthiness directive has also been well incorporated in all pilot training manuals, operational procedures and working manuals.
The B-737 MAX full flight simulators is not designed to simulate the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) problems.
Ethiopia Airlines urges all concerned to refrain from making uninformed, incorrect, irresponsible and misleading statements during the period of the accident investigation. International regulations require all stakeholders to wait patiently for the final result of the investigation.

Turkish 5th-generation fighter aircraft were first spotted in taxing.

Turkish currently leads India and South Korea in the race for the next generation of fighter jets, as evidenced by data from the aircraft airframe that was revealed a few months ago. Turkish is now prepared to begin taxi trials. If Turkey manufactures the fifth-generation fighter jet in the future, it will be the most anticipated project for the country and will boost its reputation of aerospace technology.
Turkey’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, the TF-X, also known as the National Combat Aircraft (MMU), has started engine ground runs and slow-speed taxi testing. It will make its first flight by the end of 2023.
While more design refinement may be necessary to make the platform a low-observable platform, Turkey asserts that the basic prototype will be evaluated and that many adjustments will be made to the aircraft before it goes into production.
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is currently developing the TF-X, a fifth-generation Turkish fighter jet. It is anticipated to be capable of air-to-air, air-to-ground, and reconnaissance operations and to feature stealth capabilities and cutting-edge avionics.
To upgrade Turkey’s defensive capabilities and replace its outdated F-16 fleet, the TF-X is being built. TAI and British defense firm BAE Systems are working together on the project. The TF-X prototype is scheduled to have its maiden flight in 2025, with the goal of having the aircraft in service by 2030.
It is important to note that TF-development X’s has faced a number of difficulties, such as concerns about technology transfer and financing. The project is still supported by the Turkish government, which views it as a crucial representation of the nation’s developing indigenous defense industry.
The F-16 and TF-X prototypes both use General Electric F110 engines, with Turkey TRMotor and Rolls-Royce working together to create a new engine that may be available by the end of the decade.
The TF-X MMU project has advanced technology in areas like low visibility, internal weapons slots, high maneuverability, increased situational awareness, and sensor fusion, all of which are necessary for a new generation of aircraft, making Turkey one of the few nations with the infrastructure and technology to produce a fifth-generation combat aircraft.
The aircraft also has numerous data fusion, artificial intelligence, and autonomous target identification and recognition capabilities.
Turkey will gradually make progress towards the development of a 5th generation fighter aircraft by 2028. National Combat Aircraft and the South Korean KAI KF-21 Boramae fighter jet program will start as a 4.5 generation program but the transition to a 5th generation fighter aircraft in the next ten years. The Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), on the other hand, is being developed by India with a more radical approach. It will start out as a 5th generation fighter jet in the Mk1 tranche and transition to a 5.5 generation fighter in the Mk2 tranche in 2035.

Following the Tata Group’s acquisition of the losing airline in January of last year, Air India issued a voluntary retirement offer to its non-flying workers on Friday. This was the second such offer.
According to a notification, the current offer will be offered for permanent general cadre officers who are 40 years of age or older and have accomplished a minimum of five years of continuous service with the airline. Employees in the clerical and unskilled categories who have completed a minimum of five years of continuous employment will also be eligible.

The promotion will be available till April 30th. According to sources, approximately 2,100 employees will be eligible to take advantage of the current voluntary retirement offer. The airline currently employs approximately 11,000 workers, including both flying and non-flying employees.
“The employees will also receive an ex-gratia sum as a one-time bonus if they apply for voluntary retirement between 17 March 2023 and 30 April 2023. The notification stated that eligible employees who apply by March 31, 2023, will receive an additional Rs 1 lakh over and above the ex-gratia sum.
Both flying and non-flying workers were covered in the initial voluntary retirement offer. At the time, approximately 4,200 employees were eligible, and of those, approximately 1,500 chose the offer. The strategy aims to place Air India on a course for consistent growth, financial success, and market dominance.

Why Air India offers staff a 2nd time voluntary retirement option

Why does Air India issue VRS to those over 40?
In an effort to cut costs and boost operational effectiveness, Air India has made voluntary retirement programs (VRS) available to its workers. By granting employees the option to retire voluntarily, Air India is enabling the airline to cut its personnel and associated costs without having to resort to layoffs or other more extreme measures.
The current offer, according to a notification, is only available to permanent general cadre officers who are 40 years of age or older and have at least five years of continuous service under their belts. Furthermore eligible are workers in the administrative and unskilled categories who have worked continuously for at least five years.
Employees who choose to retire early or voluntarily are frequently given financial incentives to do so through VRS schemes, which can include severance payments, expanded medical coverage, and pension plans. By providing these incentives, Air India can persuade workers to retire of their own will, lowering the company’s payroll costs and strengthening its financial position.
“If staff opt for voluntary retirement between March 17 and April 30, 2023, they will also be given an ex-gratia payment as a one-time bonus. According to the notification, eligible personnel who submit their applications by March 31, 2023, will receive an additional Rs 1 lakh on top of the ex-gratia payment.”
It’s worth noting that offering VRS is a common practice among many companies, especially those facing financial difficulties or restructuring efforts. It’s important to note that any VRS scheme must comply with labor laws and regulations, and affected employees should carefully evaluate the terms of the scheme before deciding to accept the offer.
Advancements in technology and training
Older workers might be paid more and receive better benefits than more recent hires, and they might also have different skill sets and working habits that are no longer in line with the demands of the business. In order to save payroll costs and create room for younger, more affordable personnel with more modernized skills and expertise, the corporation may opt to retire some of its older employees.
It’s crucial to remember that any decisions made regarding the retirement or termination of employees must adhere to labor rules and regulations, and those impacted may be entitled to severance payments or other benefits.
