United Airlines Places Significant Orders from Airbus and Boeing

United Airlines has taken significant steps to enhance and modernize its fleet as part of its “United Next” strategy. The airline has expanded its commitment to Airbus by ordering an additional 60 Airbus A321neo aircraft, adding to the initial order of 50 A321XLR and 70 A321neo planes. With this latest deal, United’s total commitment to purchasing A321 aircraft from Airbus has increased.

These A321neo aircraft will feature Airbus’s innovative Airspace cabin, offering passengers a welcoming environment with state-of-the-art features such as full LED lighting to reduce jet lag, slimmer sidewall panels for increased personal space at shoulder level, improved window views with redesigned bezels and integrated window shades, new spacious overhead bins, and various enhancements to improve the overall passenger experience.

United Airlines is also expanding its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, exercising options to acquire 50 additional 787-9 aircraft and securing an additional 50 options. With a total of 150 firm orders, United now boasts the world’s largest Dreamliner orderbook and is on track to become the largest operator of 787 aircraft globally. This decision follows the airline’s remarkable acquisition of 100 787 aircraft the previous year.

Currently, United Airlines operates a fleet of more than 70 Dreamliners, making it the first airline to operate all three variants of the 787 series. The Dreamliner’s exceptional fuel efficiency and reliability enable United to efficiently serve its extensive global route network, offering passengers a seamless travel experience.

The 787 is the best-selling widebody in history with more than 1,800 orders from 87 customers – including more than 870 repeat orders from 56 repeat customers. In the last year, customers have placed nearly 350 orders and commitments for the 787 family.

  • A cocooned 60-inch curved wall for privacy while maintaining a spacious feel.

Passengers traveling together can enjoy a shared experience with a sliding divider that creates a lounge-like space. The stowable tables also allow for “buddy dining,” where two people can dine together.

The cabin’s flowing curves, inspired by the iconic Concorde wings, create a welcoming and stylish environment. Additionally, passengers can now wheel their luggage directly into their personal storage space, making settling in easier.
