Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) is providing collaborative production on its Hurjet trainer and a number of other front-line military planes as part of the competition to provide Malaysia with light combat aircraft (LCA).

At the Defense Services Asia (DSA) 2022 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, TAI president and CEO Temel Kotil revealed collaborative manufacturing concepts, saying that they are backed by TAI’s investment in the Southeast Asian country.

Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil, the General Manager of Türk Aerospace Industries A.S., previously discussed Jet Training and the HÜRJET Light Attack Aircraft. The HURJET is on its way to Malaysia, according to Kotil, since TAI has a strong position in Malaysia’s tender.

TAI has already established an engineering center in Malaysia, which it aims to transform into an avionics hub, according to Kotil. Malaysia wants the company to make more lucrative commitments, such as transferring some of its most potent military equipment.

Furthermore, despite the Malaysian government’s policies in this field, Kotil feels that the company’s experiences might aid Malaysia’s aerospace sector. “We have 20 years of expertise producing aircraft equipment and want to transfer that experience to Malaysia,” Kotil explained.

According to him, TAI also intends to manufacture and assemble aeroplane components like as avionics in Malaysia. “By the end of this year, we want to have around 100 engineers in the Cyberjaya office,” he added.

The alliance will concentrate on enhancing aircraft component manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and overhaul, as well as increasing skilled personnel and technology transfer.

These conditions have the potential to shift the scales in Turkey’s favour. The country’s obligation, on the other side, is to build the Hurjet on schedule, which includes completing all tests on time.

So, what sets the Hurjet apart from the Tejas, and how does it stack up? The Turkish plane has a maximum speed of 1.4 Mach. Tejas is the faster of the two, topping out at 1.6 Mach. The sound speed is Mach 1. The Hurjet can carry more than 2,700 kg of cargo, but the Tejas can only carry 5,300 kg. The Hurjet has a 2,200-kilometer range. While HAL has not said it, the Tejas has a 300-kilometer action radius.
