In 2004, the airline unveiled these aircraft models. The conversion aims to replace these outdated aircraft with ultramodern and technologically sophisticated passenger aircraft to offer the highest level of comfort and convenience for travelers. The airline’s ability to move cargo increases as a result of the conversion of the aircraft into a freighter, which also improves service.

Ethiopian Airlines has received praise for playing a crucial part in the international distribution of pharmaceuticals and vaccines. During the tough times of the pandemic, its freight wing has kept the airline afloat. Using its in-house MRO capabilities, Ethiopian temporarily transformed about 25 of its wide-body passenger aircraft into freighters, which enhanced its cargo operations and allowed it to ship about 1 billion doses of the Covid-19 vaccine around the world.

Ethiopian began the complete conversion of its B767 passenger aircraft early this year at the largest maintenance, overhaul, and repair facility on the continent in Addis Ababa. One of the airline’s three B767 aircraft has been converted to a new configuration, while the conversion of the other has reached the crucial stage of door-cutting and will be finished in a few months.

Ethiopian has been increasing its cargo business around the world by deploying a fleet of freighters equipped with the newest technologies. Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services currently offer 67 specific freighter services as well as belly hold capacity to more than 130 international locations worldwide.
