An Air India Boeing 777-200LR, en route from Delhi to San Francisco, made an unscheduled landing in Siberia, Russia, on Friday due to a potential issue detected in the cargo hold.

This incident marks the second time in just over a year that an Air India flight on this route has diverted to Russia.

Flight Details and Diversion

Air India flight AI183 departed from Delhi at 3:44 PM IST, with a scheduled arrival in San Francisco at 6:20 PM local time. However, during the flight, the crew identified a possible problem in the cargo hold, prompting the decision to make a precautionary landing at Krasnoyarsk Airport in Russia.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft landed safely at Krasnoyarsk and that no fire or smoke was detected in the cargo compartment upon inspection. Air India has stated that it is working closely with relevant authorities to address the situation and ensure the well-being of passengers and crew.

Air India’s Statement

In an official statement, Air India emphasized its commitment to safety, saying, “The aircraft has landed safely, and we are working with relevant authorities to ensure guests are taken care of while we decide the next course of action.

At Air India, the safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew remains top priority.” Following the inspection, the airline is coordinating the next steps to resume the flight.

Passengers and crew are being attended to as efforts are made to address the technical issue and continue the journey to San Francisco.
