Tatas rename AirAsia India as AIX Connect ahead of merger
AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India, is an Indian low-cost airline headquartered in Bangalore (Bengaluru), Karnataka. The airline was a joint venture between Tata Sons and AirAsia Bhd. Tata Sons currently holds a 100% stake in the airline, after AirAsia Bhd sold its remaining 16.33℅ stake to Air India. It commenced operations in June 2014 with Bangalore as its primary operating base. In December 2022, AirAsia India renamed AIX Connect.

On November 2, Air India announced that an operational review process to combine low-cost carrier AirAsia India with Air India Express is under way. The airline predicted that the merger would likely be finished by the end of 2023. The merged entity will be known as Air India Express after the merger.
According to information on file with the corporate affairs ministry, AirAsia India has changed its name to AIX Connect Pvt Ltd. As part of the ongoing merger process, the name has been changed. A common website, call centre, social media handles, boarding cards, and luggage tags are also being considered, according to the report, which cited an unnamed official. By the end of 2023, Tata Sons hopes to have the merger process completed.
“The two constituent airlines will continue to have the full complement of regulatory post-holders until the merger is complete,” Air India CEO Campbell Wilson stated in an internal communication last week. “However, for now, a single CEO will provide the clarity and singular accountability necessary to navigate the process.”
